Justification:
Research done in Bangladesh by the Research and Evaluation Division (RED) of BRAC in 2005 and more recent research done by University of Madras, Chennai (2007) has shown that employers want more of what can be classified as ‘soft skills’ in addition to and sometimes in preference to the ‘hard subject skills’ that are imparted by universities. Such skills should help a student adapt to the real world job environment and successfully carry out the assignments given in the job environment. It has also has been found that when entering university students initially face a lot of difficulties in adapting to the short semester environment, continuous assessment and writing requirements that a university imposes. A survey done of university students revealed that the most important skill they lack is “How to Read”. A university student should not only be able to read, but to comprehend and apply what he/she has read.
