Aiming to introduce students to real-world aviation and aeronautical technologies, Daffodil International University (DIU) has installed a PT-6 training aircraft at its 'Mukto Akash' Square at Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia.
The aircraft was inaugurated on June 22 by Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat, BBP, OSP, ndu, psc (Retd.), Former Chief of Air Staff, Bangladesh Air Force, as a symbolic gift to support hands-on learning for students. The installation marks a significant milestone—being one of the first aircraft of its kind displayed on a university campus in Bangladesh for academic purposes.
The PT-6, also known as the Nanchang CJ-6, is a basic trainer aircraft used by the Bangladesh Air Force. With its tandem-seat, single-engine configuration and pneumatic flight systems, it serves as a powerful tool to bridge theory with practical insights in aviation.
Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees of DIU, expressed gratitude to the Bangladesh Air Force for their support and highlighted the university’s commitment to expanding learning resources at the 'Mukto Akash' square.
This distinguished addition not only enhances the aesthetic and technical environment of the DIU campus but also symbolizes a bridge between academia and aviation excellence
About PT-6AC
The airplane type CHUJIAO - 6 is a primary trainer which is mostly acquainted by PT-6 in Bangladesh. In BAF Academy Flight cadets of General Duty of pilot branch are taught basic flying with PT-6 ac. A total course of 100 hours flying need to be completed smoothly to be commissioned as an officer in BAF. Within the flying course a cadet is to fly General mission, Instrumental, Aerobatics, night Msn and so on. Bangladesh brought this ac from china. The ac is addressed Nanchang CJ - 6 in china which is used as a basic trainer there. It is designed and build by the Nanchang aircraft factory. It has total lifetime of 4000 hrs and life extension gives additional 4040 hrs to fly a single ac. It has tandem seats, single engine (09 cylinders) and low wing. Its power plant is a piston type HUOSAI - 6 radial aero engine of 260 rated horsepower in combination with an automatic puller propeller type J9-G1. Its fuselage, wing and stabilizers are of all metal structure; ailerons, elevators and rudder are of metal skeleton structure covered with airplane fabric. Its landing gear is of retractable tricycle type comprised with (brake shoe, brake tyre, wheel drum, spring). The ac equipped to ensure the routine flight and instrument flight. PT-6 ac makes an extensive use of pneumatics to control the gear and flap extension and retraction, operate the brake and start the engine. An engine driven air pump recharges the system. However if air pressure is too low to start the engine then the on board air tank can be recharged by an external source. If an external source is not available then the engine can be restarted by swinging the propeller with hand. The length of the ac is 8.46m with 10.22m wing span. Highest operating ceiling 5200m. Empty weight of ac is 1095 kg, two pilot approximation 180 kg, fuel capacity 162 ltr (77,77,8) with max fig 3.5 hrs. Nose gear is equipped with a shimmy damper which helps controlling the oscillation during landing. PT-6 ac has fully mechanical aileron, rudder and total control surface is operated mechanically (with cable). Only engine starting, flap extension landing gear extension/ refraction is operated pneumatically. If suddenly stops, PT-6 ac automatically starts gliding, due to robust structure. Easy operation and best controlling. PT-6 ac is used in basic training in BAF.
