The Department of Public Health at DIU proudly celebrated its 13th Foundation Day, marking over a decade of academic excellence, research, and community impact. The event also served as a warm welcome to our newest batch of students.
 
We were honored to have Professor Dr. Mohammad Ali, Bangladesh’s pioneering Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic surgeon and founder of the National Liver Foundation, as our Chief Guest. His groundbreaking contributions, including the nation’s first successful liver transplant, continue to inspire progress in healthcare.
 
โœ… Professor Dr. ABM Alauddin Chowdhury – Head, Department of Public Health, for his inspiring welcome speech and appreciation of all HoDs and colleagues for their contributions in making ‘Medical and Health’ a globally top-ranked subject.
 
โœ… Dr. Md. Sarowar Hossain – Associate Dean, FHLS, for his motivating words that energized both students and faculty.
 
โœ… Professor Dr. Azizur Rahman – Visiting Professor, DIU, for his invaluable contributions to public health education.

Bellal Hossain – Dean, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS), who thanked the HoD and his team for their tireless efforts in making the department number one, including groundbreaking achievements in hepatitis awareness, impactful research publications, and global recognition.

The event was filled with enthusiasm, inspiration, and a shared commitment to advancing public health—both in Bangladesh and beyond. The Pitha Utshab added a rich cultural flavor, while the incredible performances by our talented students made the celebration even more vibrant.

Department of Public Health at Daffodil International University (DIU) and the Police Staff College Bangladesh convened a high-level meeting to establish a strategic partnership

On December 31, 2024, the Department of Public Health at Daffodil International University (DIU) and the Police Staff College Bangladesh convened a high-level meeting to establish a strategic partnership. Both parties agreed to collaborate on advancing health equity, integrating health and criminal justice initiatives, conducting joint research, and organizing health camps. The partnership will also focus on providing first aid and CPR training while promoting awareness of mental health and well-being.

Key representatives from DIU included Professor Dr. Hafiz T.A. Khan, International Advisor; Professor Dr. A.B.M. Alauddin Chowdhury, Head of the Department of Public Health; and Professor Dr. Salamat Khandker. Representing the Police Staff College Bangladesh were Dr. Mohammad Shahjahan, Additional DIG of Police; Dr. Sarker Omar Faroque, Director of Academics and Superintendent of Police; Dr. Md. Habibullah Dalal, Assistant Director of Research; and Md. Saidur Rahman, Additional DIG.

This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to fostering a healthier and more equitable society while addressing key challenges at the intersection of public health and law enforcement.

DIU-BCU Dual Award MPH Program

We are thrilled to announce that all students of the 2nd cohort of the DIU-BCU Dual Award MPH Program have accomplished their MPH from Birmingham City University (BCU), UK. Impressively, 60% achieved ๐ƒ๐ˆ๐’๐“๐ˆ๐๐‚๐“๐ˆ๐Ž๐, while the remaining 40% earned ๐Œ๐„๐‘๐ˆ๐“, reflecting exceptional guidance from DIU and BCU.

A special congratulations to ๐Œ๐ซ. ๐Œ๐. ๐๐ข๐ฉ๐ฅ๐จ๐› ๐‡๐จ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐š๐ข๐ง, who secured the ๐ญ๐จ๐ฉ ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง among the 2nd cohort students who attended from the DIU campus, with an outstanding 81% mark!

So far, all 30 students who attended the BCU MPH program have graduated successfully, setting a remarkable track record of excellence. Huge congratulations to all the students of the 1st and 2nd Cohort for their outstanding achievements!

We are delighted to share that the Department of Public Health, in collaboration with the Daffodil International University Research Society and the DIU Journal of Allied Health Sciences, successfully organized a thought-provoking seminar titled "Public Health Career in Australia: Research and Professional Aspects."

Master of Public Health students, Department of Public Health, DIU, visited Narsingdi Sadar Hospital and a Community Clinic as part of their course. This field visit provided valuable hands-on experience in understanding healthcare systems and community health services.

Launch of Public Health Study Site at Bhabanipur: A Mission Towards NOhep Village
On Saturday, November 23, the Department of Public Health at Daffodil International University (DIU) officially launched its Public Health Study Site in Bhabanipur, Savar. This initiative, in collaboration with the National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh (NLFB), aims to build a hepatitis-free community under the mission titled Mission Toward NOhep Village.
 
The day began with an enthusiastic rally led by Professor Dr. Md. Bellal Hossain, the honorable Dean of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, DIU. Participants included Professor Dr. Mohammad Ali, a renowned hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgeon and the founder of NLFB; Dr. Abu Jamil Faisel, President-Elect of the Public Health Society; Professor Dr. ABM Alauddin Chowdhury, Head of the Department of Public Health at DIU; along with other faculty members, students, and staff of DIU. The rally started from DIU’s Knowledge Tower and ended at Bonomaya, where over 100 participants joined hepatitis screening activities.
 
Following the rally, a discussion session was held, where Professor Dr. ABM Alauddin Chowdhury welcomed the guests and participants. He highlighted the background of the study site, the department’s research initiatives, and notable achievements. Professor Dr. Mohammad Ali delivered the keynote speech, emphasizing the importance of combating hepatitis and fostering healthier communities.
 
The Honorable Vice-Chancellor of DIU, Professor Dr. Md. Lutfar Rahman, attended as the Chief Guest and praised the project for its role in disease prevention and research. Dr. Abu Jamil Faisel expressed optimism that the study site would evolve into a model health initiative, promoting a hepatitis-free, smoke-free, and plastic-free community.
 
Professor Dr. Md. Bellal Hossain expressed gratitude to NLFB for their support and appreciated the department’s efforts. At the end of the session, Professor Dr. Mohammad Ali handed over a research grant to Professor Dr. ABM Alauddin Chowdhury to conduct the initial survey.
 
This Public Health Study Site will serve as a hub for health research, education, and community outreach, creating new opportunities for students and playing a vital role in improving community health.

DIU-BCU Dual Award Program's Experience Sharing and Certificate Giving Ceremony

Congratulations to 20 talented students of MPH program of the Department of Public Health, DIU those who recently completed an exclusive ‘Dual Degree Program’ facilitated by Birmingham City University (BCU), United Kingdom ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง and Daffodil International University (DIU), Bangladesh ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฉ! An ‘Experience Sharing and Certificate Giving Ceremony’ event was held on 16 September, organized by International Affairs, DIU to celebrate this success of the students.
Dr. Abu Jamil Faisel, President, Bangladesh Public Health Society joined as Chief Guest of the event to congratulate the successors. The program was also attended by the Professors, Head, guardians and students of the department. During the event, these accomplished students not only received their well-deserved certificates but also shared their experiences to inspire and motivate other students.

Workshop on a Hands-on course on essential statistical analyses for clinical research

๐Ÿ’  The Global Health Research Centre (GHRC) with the joint collaboration of Pallirup (PR) organized a day-long workshop on a Hands-on course on essential statistical analyses for clinical research by Prof. Kiyoshi ICHIHHARA, MD, Ph.D.    
 
๐ŸŽ‰ Congratulations to all the participants who completed the hands-on course on essential statistical analyses for clinical research! It was a pleasure to see everyone engaged in the practical exercises and discussions throughout the program. DIU-BCU Dual Award Program

โ€‹โ€‹The first group of graduates from the Department of Public Health of Daffodil International University have successfully completed their course of Master of Public Health from Birmingham City University, UK where more than 10 students passed with Distinction. The group with such a triumphant result will go to UK in the upcoming july to receive their Convocation from the university.

Roundtable Discussion on the Bachelor of Public Health Program

A round table discussion among the highly distinguished leaders of Public Health in Bangladesh took place on the new years, organised by the Department of Public Health, Daffodil International University. The esteemed guests, along with the faculty members came together to discuss the prospect and opportunities of Bachelor of Public Health (BPH), the new program to be inaugurated by the department from Spring, 2023. 

Their views and kind feedback will surely enrich the inaugural program to succeed and serve it's purpose of developing new health leaders. There will be new horizon of opportunities for the students of BPH introduced under their guidance.

Seminar on the โ€œResilience through Information on SRHR & Empowerment (RISE) Programme"

Seminar on the “Resilience through Information on SRHR & Empowerment (RISE) Programme" was held in the Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia on 09 November 2022, which was jointly organized by the Department of Public Health, Daffodil International University and the KIT Tropical Institute, Amsterdam. The seminar was disseminate the findings and experiences of the RISE project and explore future collaborations between KIT and DIU. ๐๐ซ๐จ๐Ÿ. ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐Œ. ๐‹๐ฎ๐ญ๐Ÿ๐š๐ซ ๐‘๐š๐ก๐ฆ๐š๐ง, ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐‡๐จ๐ง๐จ๐ซ๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ž ๐•๐ข๐œ๐ž-๐‚๐ก๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐จ๐ซ of the Daffodil International University was present as the Chief Guest and Anke van der Kwaak, Team leader Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, KIT Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam was also present in the seminar as a special Guest. The seminar was chaired by Dr. ABM Alauddin Chowdhury, Head, Department of Public Health. Internationally renowned public health expert and the Hon’ble Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, DIU Professor Dr Abu Naser Zafar Ullah has given the welcome speech and also given overview of SRHR situation in Bangladesh on behalf of the DIU. A total of 75 participants were present in this seminar.
Ophelia Chatterjee, SRHR Expert, KIT Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam, Netherlands was given speech about Introduction to RISE training project and the RISE research project. A voluntary medical student organization, Bangladesh Medical Students' Society (BMSS) presented their recent achievements in the field of SRHR. Their coherent presentation with the RISE project was highly praised by the guests.

Inclusion of the MPH students in the Monsoon Dengue Survey, conducted by the National Malaria Elimination Program, DGHS

A total of 07 students has got opportunity through the ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐๐ฎ๐›๐ฅ๐ข๐œ ๐‡๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก, ๐ƒ๐š๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐จ๐๐ข๐ฅ ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐”๐ง๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ to work as Field Researchers of the National Monsoon Aedes Project conducted by National Malaria Elimination Program, Directorate General of Health Services. The students successfully completed their assigned tasks like data collection, identification & elimination of sources of Aedes Larva. We congratulate all the students for participating the mentioned national project.

The Honorable Vice-Chancellor of DIU candidly cited this type of awareness program timely which he hoped to be continued in future as part of the social responsibility. Both the Hon’ble special guests requested to the Department of Public Health and the DGHS to organize the Dengue Sources Destruction Program as follow-up program.
Seminar’s ๐ค๐ž๐ฒ๐ง๐จ๐ญ๐ž ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ž๐š๐ค๐ž๐ซ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐Ÿ. ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐Š๐š๐›๐ข๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐๐š๐ฌ๐ก๐š๐ซ, country’s renowned entomologist and Professor of Jahangirnagar University, emphasized on covering, emptying and cleaning of domestic water storage containers on regular basis to combat the dengue bearing aedes mosquito. Representatives from National Malaria Elimination & Aedes Transmitted Control Program, DGHS ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐’. ๐Œ ๐‡๐š๐ฌ๐š๐ง ๐Œ๐š๐ก๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐Œ๐. ๐“๐จ๐ฐ๐ก๐ข๐๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐‡๐จ๐ช๐ฎ๐ž explored the recent scenarios of dengue cases and its deaths experienced in Dhaka city and across the country as well. After the seminar, a Dengue Awareness Rally was proceeded around the campus.
