Industrial Visit at The Lounge 95, Savar

On May 19, 2024, the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at DIU organized an industry visit to The Lounge 95 in Savar. This visit offered students an enlightening experience in understanding firsthand food safety protocols. They gained invaluable insights into the meticulous processes required to maintain high standards of hygiene and sanitation in a hospitality setting. From observing kitchen operations to learning about storage practices, the tour emphasized the critical importance of adhering to food safety regulations to ensure customer satisfaction and well-being.

On May 19, 2024, our dynamic students from the 26th batch of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at DIU hosted an incredible event as part of their "Hospitality Sales and Marketing" course.

Under the guidance of Mr. Md. Mishkatul Kabir, Lecturer, Dept. of THM, they showcased their skills in real-world settings, learning the art of selling firsthand. Kudos to everyone involved for turning classroom knowledge into sweet success!

Go Green: Maintain a sustainable life & make a better world

The Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management, DIU, FBE of Daffodil International University, organized on May 15, 2024 an event called “๐—š๐—ผ ๐—š๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ป” under the course “ ๐’๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ข๐ง๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ž ๐“๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฆ” to create awareness about tree plantation and combating climate change.

For sustainability practice, students of THM 21st, 22nd and 23rd Batch planted various trees like - Neem, Almond, Shonali, Kamini etc. The outcome of this program features students being aware of the importance of tree plantation and sustainable tourism to address climate change and responsible travel.

Industrial Visit and Research Field Work

On May 11, 2024, the THM batch 25 visited Aladin's Water Park and Resort as a industrial visit under the course Resort and Recreation Management, instructed by Mr. Indrajeet Mallick.

A group of 20 students from the THM-25 made the industrial visit and research survey work about the resort, recreation and guest satisfaction. The team left Daffodil International University campus around 11 AM this morning. After reaching the Aladin Resort at Dhamrai, Savar the students firstly visited the entire resort and talked with the management, gathered knowledge about managing and running a resort. During roaming around the resort premises the students were divided into group to take a survey of the guests in the resort. A google forms questioner was prepared back in the class to make this survey, this report is going to be used in research which will be supervised by Mr Mallick. Ending the survey report collection the students were given an free hour to enjoy the resort and recreational activities. In that time the students enjoyed water park, swimming pool, played volleyball, and so much other fun activities.

At the late hours of afternoon, the team got their lunch in a restaurant inside the resort and finally all of them enjoyed a cable car ride. Lastly, the team left for the campus at 4:45 PM and safely reached the DIU premises at 6:15 PM.

N.B Surjaymukhi 22(university bus) was in operation of transportation.

Fire safety Training

On May 11 & 12, 2024, the Tourism & Hospitality Management, DIU organized a Fire Safety and Security Training Program specifically for the students of the Tourism and Hospitality Management department with the help of Bangladesh Fire Safety and Security Service, Savar Station, Dhaka.  The aim of this program is to equip students with essential knowledge and skills to ensure the safety of both guests and staff in hospitality settings.

The program covered essential topics such as fire prevention, evacuation procedures, fire extinguisher usage, and emergency response protocols. Participants had the opportunity to engage in hands-on training exercises and simulations to reinforce their learning.

Session on Path to Prosperity: Navigating Careers with Conscious Health" Jointly arranged THM and CDC, MoU Sign with Probashi Sheba Limited

On May 11, 2024, Daffodil International University (DIU) and Probashi Sheba Limited (เฆชเงเฆฐเฆฌเฆพเฆธเง€) signed an MoU to facilitate knowledge exchange and opportunities for mutual advancement. Probashi Sheba will act as a consultancy firm for skilled migration matchmaking, aiding DIU graduates in finding job prospects abroad. Both parties commit to sharing updates on job opportunities and overseas employment information for DIU students.

Additionally, a collaborative session titled "Path to Prosperity: Navigating Careers with Conscious Health" was organized, featuring discussions on career transitions and personal grooming by Kanij Fatima, Founder of Probashi & Ferdous Bappy, Wellbeing Consultant at Konna Wellbeing Limited respectively.

Industrial attachment at Le Meridien Dhaka

On May 09, 2024, students of Tourism and Hospitality Management seized the opportunity to undergo an industrial attachment at LE MERIDIEN DHAKA. Accompanied by a group of 40 students and esteemed faculty members including Mr. Siddiqur Rahman, Head of the Department, Ms. Yeasmin Lina, Mr. Mehedi Sawon, and Ms. Fairooze Waziha, Lecturers from the Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management, DIU, Daffodil International University. This invaluable experience provided a chance for students to learn and grow in a prestigious environment, and we are grateful for this opportunity. The benefits of a visit like this to Le Méridien Dhaka can be numerous:

The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, DIU arranged a hands on workshop on "Elementaries of airline ticketing: Careers in Tour and travel agency management" on 4 May 2024 in HRDI Conference Hall, 3rd floor, Knowledge Tower, Daffodil Smart City.
Mr. Ziaul Hoque Bhuiyan is an alumni of the department and the proprietor of Luxury Flight International demonstrated the Ins and outs of airline ticketing, travel agency business operations and client handling to the students enrolled in the courses "Tour and Travel Agency Management" and "Employability Skills 360".
Nearly 100 students participated in the workshop and gained insights about managing travel agency business and its career prospects.

Library Resource Orientation, Spring 2024

Outcome of the Session:

Awareness session on Student Tourist Security

๐ŸŒŸ Tourism & Hospitality Management, DIU joined hands with Tourist Police, Bangladesh for an enlightening ๐’๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐“๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ ๐’๐ž๐œ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ session. Over 200 students & faculty members attended, learning about safety measures and Tourist Police services.

Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, VC, DIU along with special guests Mr. Mohammad Abu Sufian, Additional DIG, Tourist Police Bangladesh and Mr. Md. Niamul Huq ppm, Police Super of Dhaka Region, Tourist Police Bangladesh, highlighted the importance of tourist safety. Bangladesh Tourist Police, operational since 2013, shared insights and discussed future collaborations with DIU.

Seminar on "Crafting Success: A Career talk on the Art and Business of Food and Beverage Management"

 

The seminar titled "Crafting Success: A Career Talk on the Art and Business of Food and Beverage Management" was held on February 25, 2024, at Daffodil International University, organized by the Tourism and Hospitality Management Department. Mr. Kazi Moazzem Hossain, Director of Food & Beverage at Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Dhaka, served as the Key Resource Person, captivating the audience with his profound insights and motivational words. Throughout his speech, Mr. Hossain not only shared his wealth of knowledge and experiences but also ignited a sense of passion and determination within the students. With engaging storytelling and real-life examples, he showcased the endless possibilities and opportunities within the food and beverage management industry, highlighting both its challenges and rewards. What truly stood out was Mr. Hossain's ability to inspire, resonating deeply with the students and instilling in them a newfound sense of purpose and direction. Following the speeches, a brief question and answer session allowed attendees to engage with the speakers further. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Siddiqur Rahman, Head of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, expressing gratitude to the guests, participants, and organizers.

On September 23, the students from the 28th batch of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, DIU organized a Study Tour to the Bangabandhu Military Museum as part of their course 'Bangladesh Studies'. Under the guidance of their dedicated course teacher and advisor, students were set to explore the magnificent Museum. This excursion was not just a mere trip; it was an opportunity for our students to connect with the rich tapestry of Bangladesh's heritage.

The aim of the excursion was to provide them with practical insights into the country's history and heritage, offering students the opportunity to learn, enjoy, and gain a deeper understanding of the historical significance of the museum.

One-day workshop on the 'Use of AI to Smooth Daily Life'

 On 10th September 2023 Daffodil International University organized a one-day workshop on the 'Use of AI to Smooth Daily Life,' hosted by the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management. The event, attended by 75 students from various departments, focused on enhancing their understanding and practical skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-driven applications. Mohammad Nurul Afchar, a dedicated AI lecturer, actively contributed by creating teaching materials. Associate Professor Mahbub Parvez, the chief guest, highlighted the controlled history of AI, emphasizing its positive applications while cautioning against misuse. Siddiqur Rahman, Head Assistant Professor, stressed the importance of staying informed about current technologies. The workshop concluded with the awarding of certificates of honor, aligning with Daffodil University's goal of equipping students with timely knowledge and skills for success in the contemporary world. Key figures like Career Development Center Director Dr. Tanveer Abir and Assistant Professor Mosa Khadijatul Kobra played significant roles in the event.

The students from 25th batch of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management had arranged a two days batch tour in Sylhet under the course "Tour and Travel Agency Management". This tour has enhanced their practical knowledge, management skills and leadership skills for arranging a tour. Lastly, they have learned, enjoyed and realized the significance of the maintaining sustainability of each destination while removing trash and plastic from the destination area.

London Tea Exchange is a global leader in the tea industry. It is an honor for Daffodil International University to host them and to show our students and faculty how world-renowned tea is produced. Our Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management students will learn a lot about how world-famous celebrities use tea for their drinking and for keeping their health in proper shape.

๐Ÿ’ขWe are grateful to London Tea Exchange for giving our researchers the opportunity to conduct more research on the impact of tea and its value-added products, especially in Bangladesh. This will help Bangladesh to export more tea to the global market. Daffodil International University, especially its hotel and tourism department and nutrition and food engineering department, will benefit greatly from this joint effort.

Congratulations to Team Tyrants (19th Batch) for becoming the champions and to Team Wild Cats (21st batch) for receiving the runner-up trophy.

Interactive Session Success Strategies for Reservation and Sales Department

The interactive session on success strategies for reservation and sales department organized by the department of Tourism and Hospitality Management (THM), Daffodil International University (DIU) to encourage current students and promote their career opportunities in the hospitality industry.

The session was facilitated by MD. Habibur Rahman, Reservation And Sales Executive, The Westin Dhaka, an alumnus 1st batch, Dept. of THM, DIU and moderated by Mst Khadijatul Kobra, Assistant Professor of this department. Around 100 students and 7 faculty attended the event which was absolutely phenomenal for the students to explore their ideas regarding their career path.

The facilitator Mr Rahman highlighted three remarkable points for doing excellent career in the hospitality industry such as Communication Skill, Knowledge and attitude development. He explained how to prepare from now on for future professional life.  To make the discussion more natural, he shared his own real-life experience and how he dealt with the challenges which highly motivated the students to relate their vision. The newly joined students also did interaction with the alumnus and got enlightened.

With this, the session was wrapped up on appreciation and a new professional relationship was built for a better future with the vision to lead the industry.

52nd Victory Day

“Pictorial map of Bangladeshi Tourist Destinations” by our students currently enrolled in the course, Tourism Destination Marketing. As a part of regular class engagement activity, the students gave efforts to depict the famous icons, rural and urban landscapes, and countless other historical and botanical symbols that represent the essence of Bangladesh through the illustrated maps.
 
On this joyous 52nd victory day, Tourism & Hospitality Management, DIU wishes that Bangladesh tourism and travel industry can play a great role in upholding its status in the world map.

Celebrating "World Tourism Day 2022"

Celebrating "World Tourism Day 2022" Highlighting Traditional Sports Event “เฆ–เง‡เฆฒเฆพเฆฐ เฆนเฆพเฆŸ-เฆฌเฆพเฆœเฆพเฆฐ “.

We are delighted to celebrate the World Tourism Day 2022 organized by the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Daffodil International University. 

World Tourism Day will be celebrated as the shift towards tourism is recognized as a crucial pillar of development and progress is well underway. The theme “Rethinking Tourism” will reflect this. It aims to inspire the debate around rethinking tourism for development, including through education & jobs, and tourism’s impact on the planet and opportunities to grow more sustainably.

On this glorious occasion, we are arranging a traditional sports event titled “เฆ–เง‡เฆฒเฆพเฆฐ เฆนเฆพเฆŸ-เฆฌเฆพเฆœเฆพเฆฐ “. The event will cover the representation of Bangladeshi cultural elements and traditional sports on 27th September 2022 at Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia, Dhaka.

On this day, the celebration will start with a colorful rally in the morning. After the inaugural session, industry personnel from hotels, Airlines, Tourism, etc. will visit the traditional game shop arranged by the students of the THM department. All the guests will participate in the traditional Bangladeshi game: Kabadi, Ghuri Uthshob, Hari Banga, Balish Khela, Latim, Dariabanda, Gollachut, Bou-ci, Kanamachi, Marbel Khela and enjoy traditional food. With the prize-giving ceremony and closing session, we will wrap up the celebration of World Tourism Day 2022.

๐Ÿ”นToday, the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, FBE of Daffodil International University, organized an event called “Go Green.” For sustainability practice, students of THM 16th Batch planted various trees like - neem, lemon, nut wood, guava, mulberry, etc. It was a Sustainable Tourism Course project organized under the guidance of course instructor Mr. Mohammad Nurul Afchar.

Tourism Football Premier League

โšฝ๏ธDepartment of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Daffodil International University, organized the Tourism Football Premier League (TFPL), an Intra department football tournament as one of their extra-curricular activities.
 
โšฝ๏ธThe tournament started on Thursday, 31 March 2022 in DIU`s playground at DSC. Eight individual teams participated in this tournament and each team was mentored by the department`s faculties and officers. Among all, The Wildcats, Noob Power, THM Tigers and Swag 11 qualified for the semi-finals. The Wildcats and THM Tigers met at the final match and THM Tigers became champion by defeating The Wildcats.

Food Festival & Presentation of Recipe

๐Ÿฅ—“Food Festival & Presentation of Recipe” organized by the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Daffodil International University, under the course work English for Hospitality was held today at the Department.
 
๐Ÿ’ขThe objective of this presentation is to bring out the practical implementation of English Language, as the Department represents a diverse and global industry. The impact of international language in this industry is immense and the purpose of today's program is to make students understand that impact and importance.
 
๐Ÿ’ขFaculty members from the Department of English and the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management were present and motivate the students. The presentation was delighted by Professor Dr. Masum Iqbal, Dean, Faculty of Business & Entrepreneurship and. Professor Rafiqul Islam, Editor of the research Journal, DIUJBE as the special guest. Mr. Mahbub Parvez, Head, Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management addressed the presentation of the students. Mr. Emran Khan, Lecturer, coordinate the event.

Daffodil International Symposium on Hospitality

On 10th September 2020, Daffodil International University (DIU) will host an online international symposium that will bring together senior representatives from the hospitality sector, government and academia, to address critical issues facing hospitality education in Bangladesh and worldwide. This event will also mark the forthcoming launch of the Daffodil-Oxford Centre of Excellence for Hospitality (DOCEH), a new specialist learning institute located within DIU

Aims of this Symposium

  • To be a high-impact event that places Daffodil International University at the centre of a national conversation about the future of hospitality education in Bangladesh

  • To mark DIU’s intentions to be the leading provider of hospitality education in Bangladesh through the launch of the Daffodil Oxford Center for Excellence in Hospitality.
