The Department of English brings together three different but related areas of study: Literature, Linguistics, and Communicative English. Freshers and sophomores of the department are offered skill-based (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing) courses that directly help them upgrade their ability in English language usage.

A workshop on "Exploring the Life Cycle of the English Language Teaching Professor" at International Conference Hall, AB-4, DSC, on 22 October 2022, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM has been organized by the Department of English, facilitated by Dr. Lawrence N. Berlin, Professor Emeritus, Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, USA.
The competition attracted students of class 9 to 12 (including "O" and "A" level) from all over the country and a total number of 977 students registered themselves for the event which was divided into two categories: Senior Category (College Level) and Junior Category (School Level). After the online preliminary Selection Round, 499 participants were selected and called on for the Theater Round, which focused on English reading and writing skills, and then 40 chosen participants from both categories competed in the Final Round by presenting their extemporaneous speeches on current genetic topics.
Dr. Shamsad Mortuza, Professor of English Department of University of Dhaka was present as the chief guest while Chief Patron of the event and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, was present as the guest of Honor. Professor Dr. M Lutfar Rahaman, Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University was present as the special guest in the program.
The Department of English, Daffodil International University (DIU) organized a day-long symposium titled “Modernism/ Postmodernism: Truth/Post-truth in Language and Literature” at Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia, Dhaka with the participation of teachers and students from around 7 universities of the country.
