Introduction

Daffodil International University (DIU) was established in 2002 and is one of the fastest growing universities in the country. It has become a landmark in higher education in Bangladesh. The Department of Development Studies is a centre of excellence in providing knowledge and skills for conducting contemporary cutting-edge research to add greater value in the domain of development policies and practices.

Sometimes termed a test case for development, Bangladesh has become a breeding ground of success stories of socio-economic development in the global arena. Despite suffering from several challenges & limitations, Bangladesh has transformed itself from a poverty-stricken “bottomless basket case” to a lower-middle income emerging economy. There markable performance of Bangladesh in the last four decades is a matter worth investigating for all developing countries in South & East Asian, Sub-Saharan African and Latin American regions.

The Master’s in Development Studies (MDS) program attempts to solve the critical paradoxes prevailing in the development arena utilizing learning fromreal-world experiences of developing countries on their journey towards development.It has been designed with the utmost sophistication to cover both theoretical and practical aspects of development at local, national and international levels. It offers a highly customized, focused & strategic way to explore the vast canvas of thedevelopment domain with sensitivity towards academic & industry needs. MDS is a valuable degree targeted at development practitioners, policy makers, academic researchers and students to equip them to see development through a critical lens so that they can play a more informed and positive role in shaping their societies. The program aims to educate professionals passionate about pursuing careers in international and national development organizations, NGOs and in the academic arena.
