Food Festival 2025: A Delicious Learning Experience by Marketing Students

The Department of Marketing recently hosted a vibrant and mouthwatering Food Festival as part of the academic assignment for the Microeconomics course. This unique event, held under the guidance of course instructor Ms. Sunjida Khan, Assistant Professor, blended economic theory with real-world application, allowing students to explore key microeconomic concepts such as demand, pricing, consumer behavior, and competition—all through the lens of food!

Organized entirely by the students, the festival featured a variety of food stalls offering both local and international cuisines. Each group applied microeconomic principles in designing their pricing strategies, marketing their dishes, and understanding the preferences of their "customers"—fellow students, faculty, and guests.

The event was further enriched by the gracious presence of Dr. Dewan Golam Yazdani Showrav, Head of the Department of Marketing, who joined Ms. Sunjida Khan in evaluating the student groups. Their insightful feedback not only helped the students understand their practical strengths but also offered valuable guidance for future academic and professional pursuits.

The festival concluded on a sweet note with a cake-cutting ceremony, marking the end of a delightful day filled with learning, collaboration, and fun. The air was filled with laughter and camaraderie as students and teachers shared joyful moments together.

This Food Festival was more than just a showcase of culinary skills—it was a celebration of creativity, teamwork, and the successful application of classroom knowledge to a real-world setting. Kudos to the students and faculty for making the event a resounding success!

Inaugural Ceremony of the DIU Marketing Lab

The atmosphere at Daffodil International University (DIU) was electric as students, faculty, and distinguished guests gathered to celebrate the inauguration of the DIU Marketing Lab on 28 October, 2024, a new hub for innovation, learning, and practical experience. The event, which marked a significant milestone for the university’s Faculty of Business & Entrepreneurship (FBE), was attended by over 100 students, along with senior faculty members who filled the space with anticipation and excitement.

The grand ceremony began with a warm welcome to the esteemed guests and attendees. The chief guest for the event, Syed Alamgir, the former CEO of Meghna Group and Managing Director & CEO of Akij Venture Ltd., was welcomed with great admiration. His remarkable career in leading multinational companies made his presence even more significant, and the students eagerly awaited his words of wisdom.

Professor Dr. Mohammed Masum Iqbal, the Dean of FBE, took to the stage and shared his vision for the new Marketing Lab. With pride, he presented the features of the state-of-the-art facility, designed to serve as a place where students could bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world marketing challenges. He emphasized the vast resources available within the lab, including a comprehensive library filled with books on marketing, business strategy, consumer behavior, and more. This resource would allow students to explore the latest industry trends, learn from case studies, and gain deeper insights into the world of marketing.

Dr. Iqbal also highlighted the lab’s other facilities, including the interactive learning spaces, workshops, and the collaborative environment that would encourage students to experiment, innovate, and develop new marketing strategies. The lab, he noted, would be a place where students could apply the theories they learned in class to real-time projects and simulations.

The inauguration was further graced by senior faculty members, including Dewan Golam Yazdani Showrav, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Marketing, along with Ms. Sharmin Jahan, Assistant Professor, and Ms. Farhana Noor, Assistant Professor. All were equally thrilled about the new venture and expressed their belief that the Marketing Lab would serve as an invaluable tool for student growth.

The highlight of the event was, of course, the speech by Syed Alamgir. With his charismatic presence, he captivated the audience by sharing his personal journey through the corporate world. He spoke passionately about the evolving nature of marketing in the age of digital transformation, and the strategies he used to steer some of the most successful marketing campaigns during his leadership roles in multinational companies. His words were full of wisdom, as he encouraged students to think beyond traditional marketing methods and embrace creativity, innovation, and data-driven decision-making.

“Marketing is the heartbeat of any business,” Syed Alamgir declared. “To succeed, you must not only understand the consumer but also stay ahead of their changing needs and desires. The tools and knowledge you gain here in this lab will help you carve your own path in the world of marketing.” The students were left inspired and motivated, eager to explore the resources available in the newly inaugurated lab. The event concluded with a sense of excitement and anticipation for the future, as students chatted with faculty members, asking questions and discussing ideas sparked by the day’s presentations. The opening of the DIU Marketing Lab was more than just the unveiling of a new facility—it was the beginning of an exciting new era for marketing students at DIU. It was a place where theory met practice, where curiosity met creativity, and where the future leaders of marketing would be shaped.
