To create awareness among the students about the adverse effect of the drug abuse, the International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking was observed on June 26, 2014 at Daffodil International University. United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Dhaka, UNODC, LIFE and Daffodil International University Jointly Organized outreach institutional event- “Commemoration of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking - Interactive Discussion and Music” to mark, the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at DIU Auditorium. Prof Dr. Golam Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, Daffodil Int’l University was present in the program as chief guest. Presided over by Mr. Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director Student Affairs, the function was addressed by Prof Dr. Md Zakir Hossain, Director of Studies, DIU, Kazi Ali Reza, UN Expert and Director, Dhaka Ahsania Mission, Mr. M. A. Muhit, the Mount Everest Conqueror. Mr. Md. Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge, UNIC Dhaka quoted the UN Secretary-General’s Message in his introductory speech in the starting of the program. A song titled “madokernirabota” performed by Taufiq Ahmed which was specially written for the Day by Mr. Monjurul Ekram.
Prof Dr. Md Zakir Hossain, Director of Studies, DIU, significantly focused to disseminate information regarding why and how young people start to get involved in drug abuse. Kazi Ali Reza, UN Expert and Director, Dhaka Ahsania Mission urged the students to involve themselves in extra curriculum activities like M. A. Muhit. Mr. M. A. Muhit, the Mount Everest Conqueror inspired the participants by presentation on his journey to conquering Mountain Everest. He said positive practice of entertainment keep young’s away from the abuse of drug. He committed to support to initiate an adventure club in daffodil to with a view to motivate students to reach their own goal.
A mass awareness was created against the bad effects of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The representative of media could realize their responsibilities to prevent the availability of banned Drugs. The next generation will get benefit of a safe and bad addiction free society
